Stuff that's happened or might happen

One of those "out of the way" spots you find out about just browsing the brochures at the tourist centre.

View from our camp chairs in the early evening

Aboriginal owned and operated this cave system and camp site sits within the 350 million year old Devonian Reef System and lands the Gooiyandi People have occupied for 40,000 years.

Our Indigenous guide provided us an inciteful, educational, at times humorous and at times painful (for us to hear), view of history from the "other perspective". Thank you Rose.

Not sure if we are ever going to get the dust out of the van when we get back. It's the price we both accept of getting to see the "out of the way" places

Mimbi Caves

The Campground

Home under the stars (under a roof but with a skylight).

Stars with glow from a bush fire nearby
This photo and the one above I'm practicing my star photos with subject painting thrown in

Next stop - Derby with Horizontal Falls and AZ jab on the list.

One word - "Stunning"

We make no apologies. This post will have a few more photos and videos than normal. We could put 1,000 on and still not do this area justice.

Leaving the van at the caravan park close to the highway it was 53 kilometres (90 minutes), of, less than smooth, gravel/rock/water/corrugations into the National Park. The plan - do the Northern section on day 1, overnight at the Savannah Lodge and do the southern section on day 2. Then the road out again.

Black Cockatoos at the Caravan Park
Bungle Bungles International Airport located at the caravan park

The drive in and out again. 106 kilometres of fun 4x4. Fun for me that is, not so much for Leonie. 3 hrs. in total. 14 water crossings with some steep in and out. As I said FUN..

Day 1 - Northern section

First glimpses

Mimi Palms Gorge
Noted

Echidna Chasm with the sun creating a midday light show
The tenacity of nature. Plants everywhere growing out of the rock

The rough and the gentle
Another rock just doesn't do it justice

Day 2 - Southern section

The "DOMES"

Lost for words!!!!

In the wet season we would be 3 metres under water standing here

More Domes
Shapes and colours just overload the senses

Cathedral Gorge deserves a section all to itself.

With this video I have tried to give a sense of the size of the cavern. I've failed. It's huge.

Dark colour denotes where the water fall is in the "Wet" (For perspective note the people rear right)

That's all folks. We hope we have we have managed, in some way, to convey the beauty and magnitude of this most amazing place.

Next stop - Mimbi Caves.

As you all know we had to spend 14 days in isolation after crossing the NT/WA Border. Again our huge thanks go to Alan and Jan for putting up with us for those 2 weeks and the following 3 weeks while we had a look around the Kununurra area.

While we have dealt with El Questro and Lake Argyle under separate Blogs we also took this time to visit Parry's Lagoon, Wyndham, Mirima National Park (Hidden Valley), and celebrated another Birthday (don't care about the number as long as I keep having them).

Thanks to my nephew Mark who allocated a day as guide to help me in my quest for a legal size Barramundi. While he came away with a nice 65-70cm specimen my quest remains unfulfilled. While it was a lot of fun landing a 80cm Saw Shark (very very carefully de-hooked and released) my Barramundi remains elusive.

Home for 5 weeks
Wyndham from the lookout
Birthday dinner on Lake Kununurra - Survived another year :)
Parry's Lagoon - Bird life was amazing
Mirima National Park

Our fishing spot. Very picturesque including Croc slides in the mud from the other inhabitants.

Next stop Purnululu National Park/Bungle Bungles
